Welcome to United Way of Athens, Limestone County

United Way is the most powerful way for the people of Limestone County to work together to strengthen our community. United Way functions at the center of this community’s tradition of giving. For over 60 years, you have recognized the depth of human need and responded by investing your hard earned dollars to make a difference.

From business leaders to your friends down the block, local volunteers make decisions on where your contributions should be spent. They evaluate community programs and fund the most vital and effective ones. They guarantee that your financial gift creates a generous return on your investment for our community. We multiply your contribution’s impact. Your individual gifts add up to help hundreds everyday!

Everywhere you look you can see the results of your United Way contribution: counseling, crisis and disaster services, programs for childhood and youth development,  assistance for the elderly and the homebound, rehabilitative services, literacy skills, and the list is conitnually growing.  Our partner agencies provide programs and services in our community which allows individuals and families to lead healthier, more productive lives. How would our community change if these services supported by the United Way were not in place?

United Way is efficient and effective in ensuring that your money is utilized by our member agencies in providing the services that are needed in our community. All of the programs and services funded by United Way are reviewed annually to ensure that your contributions get the desired results.

Skilled and experienced volunteers become experts in the needs of our community. They evaluate all of our partner agencies in every aspect of their programs to include finances, program services, and other management functions. These same volunteers work diligently to distribute your donated dollars where they  will  achieve the greatest results.  All of our partner agencies are monitored on a quarterly basis to assess the outcome of United Way funded programs. This way you see how well these programs are using your gifts to solve local problems and serve needs.

Your contribution stays in your community, funding local non-profits. United Way addresses the needs important to the people who live and work in our community.

How You Can Participate:

The giving of time and talents is a valuable community investment. United Way and many of our agencies operate on restrictive budgets. The gifts of your time and talents can make a difference and provide a truly needed resource. Whether it is answering the phone, creating newsletters, hosting an event or fundraiser, developing a website, or being a campaign volunteer, your time contribution is invaluable.

Making a financial investment in your community is one of the easiest ways to make a difference. Whether you would prefer to make a one-time gift, or a year long commitment, United Way can offer you an option for making financial contributions. Listed below you will discover some unique ways you can participate:

Payroll Deductions:

Many employers help to support United Way through employee payroll deductions. This is the easiest way to maximize your contribution each year. You decide how much you want to give from each pay check, your company deducts the amount, and sends it to United Way. This method ensures a steady flow of funds year round to the agencies.

Direct Payment:

As an alternative to payroll deductions you can choose to make  quarterly or monthly donations, or a one time gift of cash, check, or credit card.

Gift of Stock:

Giving the gift of stock is a great way for you to support your community while realizing valuable personal benefits. You will receive a charitable income tax deduction for the market value of your donation; as well as eliminate the capital gains tax on the donation. An appreciated stock that you have owned for more than one year provides the best tax benefits, but you can also donate the proceeds from a stock that has increased in value. You will receive a charitable deduction, plus a capital loss deduction.

No matter how you choose to contribute, United Way is  ensuring that your gift is making a difference to someone in your community.
